Arua financial operations platform
FCA
Authorised Open Banking underneath every payment
Two-way
Live Xero sync, rather than a nightly export
Audit log
Every change to payment details and critical settings, tracked
Finance admin is not hard work — it is easy work, in enormous quantity, where being wrong once is expensive.
Arua exists to make small-business finance admin disappear: invoices and receipts extracted automatically, payments batched and approved in workflows, everything reconciled and synced live to accounting software like Xero — with FCA-authorised Open Banking underneath. TrivialWorks engineers work inside the Arua team as an offshore engineering partner.
The problem domain
A small business does not have a finance department; it has a person who also does finance. Invoices arrive as email attachments, PDFs, photographs of receipts and portal downloads. Somebody types them into the accounting system, decides which cost code each belongs to, pays them in a batch, and then — weeks later — works out which bank lines correspond to which invoices and why two of them do not.
None of that is difficult. All of it is voluminous, and the volume is what makes it error-prone: a duplicated invoice, a mis-coded expense, a supplier's bank details changed by someone who is not the supplier. The task is to remove the typing without removing the control — which is the harder half, because every automated step still has to be reviewable by a human who is accountable for it.
How the platform answers it
Get the documents in without typing
Invoices, receipts and expenses are collected, extracted and sorted automatically — including from email, with scanning authorised through Microsoft and Google, and from vendor portals. Coding is applied from history: what this supplier was coded to last time, what VAT treatment they default to, what instructions are stored against them.
Pay in batches, but never on trust
- Bulk, bundled, FX and remittance-advice payment runs, executed over FCA-authorised Open Banking.
- Approval workflows and delegated access, designed so a single person cannot both change a payee's details and pay them.
- Audit-log monitoring on critical settings and payment details — the specific place invoice fraud happens.
- AI-assisted exception handling that escalates anomalies instead of processing them quietly.
Close the loop back to the books
Statement matching auto-reports missing and mismatching invoices and notifies the vendor; work queues surface what is un-coded, unpaid or unmatched; and two-way Xero syncing keeps the accounting system live rather than reconciled once a month. The result Arua sells is a real-time cash position that someone can actually trust — and audit-quality accounts as a by-product rather than a year-end scramble.
Our role
Embedded senior engineering: our team delivers inside Arua's process and repositories. Money-movement software carries the same non-negotiables whoever writes it — correctness, auditability, and an approval chain that cannot be side-stepped — and holding that discipline while still shipping is precisely what a senior embedded team is hired for.
